Acrostic Poems

WALT: Write an acrostic poem.

A acrostic poem is a poem that the first letter in the sentence spells out whatever your doing it on.

This week I have been learning to write a acrostic poem. At first I thought it would be easy but once I started I found that finding word that started with the right letters was quite hard. After a while I slowly got used to it. In the end I made three poems.

Literacy

For literacy this week we have been learning about surviving in the wild or out at sea. Our activity are based on Survivor NZ . We have teams and each of the teams are called a name we picked Kaha which means strength in Maui. Our first task was to go back and forth getting water to fill up a small bucket.
Later we had to find thing like something red or something fluffy. I think that "Survivor" will be a fantastic project and I will have a better understanding of coping with environments.

Shantytown

This week I went to Shantytown on a school trip. First we dressed up as old fashion school kids. After that we had morning tea. Then we learnt about old fashioned punishment and went on a steam train and the teachers got a bag of gold to give to the bank. When we got off the train, we started to scream out "gold". When we got back to the church we got robbed and the teacher lost the gold. We wrote down what the robber looked like and a police constable came and caught the robber.  Turned out it was all acting and I think he was guilty. But we didn't find out if he was. After we had lunch. Next we acted out a court case and we found that she was innocent. I was a jury. I think everyone enjoyed the day and I would like to go back there again.

I have been learning about the Maori language and how to speek it. I have made a slide about the Maori language. Here it is.

Hiwi the Kiwi

Hiwi the Kiwi

Hiwi the Kiwi is a show presented by the Minstrel who is a man that teaches us about fishing safety and keeping our fish and birds breeding. I thought there was going to be a person dressed up as a kiwi but there was not. I learnt that you have to pick up a salt water fish with a wet towel to keep it fresh and try not to touch it with bear hands or it will start to go off. I also learnt that you should always bring a ruler to tell if a fish is to long or to short. I really enjoyed him coming to grey main.
