Today Thelma Eakin visited our class. We asked he some questions about her book, The Mines Afire. The teacher invited her to our class because we have just read the book as a class and visited the Brunner mine site.

How to make a volcano that fizzes when you put water in the top

Ingredients:

2 tsp Citric acid

3 tsp Baking powder

a piece of paper

a cone shaped container with a hole at the top (this will be the volcano) you can paint this for effect. 

What to do:

1 Make a paper funnel using the paper. If you don't know how to make one click here.

2 Using the funnel you made put the citric acid in the top of the cone shaped container.

3 Using the funnel again put the baking powder in the top of the cone shaped container with the citric acid. If you want it to erupt put some water in the top and stand back.

The brunner mine

Last week we went to the brunner mine because we are reading the Mines Afire. We have been learning about mining and after the mine visit we have made a slide with 5 facts about the brunner mine. Here it is. 

X Men Apocalypse

X Men Apocalypse 
I thought this movie was incredible. The movie is rated M so I would rate it from 11+. It's a movie about a group of super heroes called the X Men. This is the 3rd in the series. The main characters are a group of mutants with various extraordinary powers. They try to stop a god named Apocalypse. It has an epic fight scene at the end. At the beginning of the movie you don't really know the characters, but you soon get to know more about them. My favourite character in this movie is Nightcrawler who is a mutant with the ability to teleport anywhere that he can see in his mind.  The genre of the movie is action and fantasy. This Marvel movie is very different to the Avengers because the characters seem more human and real. You don't need to watch the others in the series but you understand it better is you have seen the previous movies. The stories are based of comics.
